Abstract

José Emilio Pacheco died on the 26th of January 2014 in Mexico D. F., in which city he had lived during the 74 years of his life. Pacheco accompanied the creative process in Mexico
since the 1970s as a public person and chronicler of his time, linking his poetry and prose to the metaphorical expressions mainly found in the literary and pictorial traditions of Mexico
and, also, of the whole world. In this contribution, his work is discussed until into the 1990s without relating to his later publications because Pacheco constantly used to reedit his works
changing the order and the selection of his poems and texts. Notwithstanding, in that earlier period he developed one of the essential characteristics of his work, that is the desire for  living together and survival of all the creatures on the planet, an issue much more relevanttoday as ever before.
