Abstract

The practice of nursing care centered on the human being presents variability and causes uncertainty, a good proportion of patients do not receive care based on the scientific evidence available and of these, a significant percentage receives unnecessary -and probably dangerous- care.  Intervention projects with proven efficiency are scientific evidence to provide quality care without uncertainty.

The objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of the intervention to reduce the cardiovascular risk in adults from the perspective of nursing.

The proposed strategy seeks to warn about the dangers of tobacco consumption, addressing two important variables: dependence and cardiovascular risk, considering that cardiovascular risk may increase with smoking.

Methodology: Quantitative study with quasi-experimental design with historical control, of comparison before and after the intervention. The population N = 31 smoker workers from the construction company IVANEL.

Results: Framingham test before the application of the intervention: low cardiovascular risk 48% (15); moderate cardiovascular risk 42% (13) and severe cardiovascular risk 10% (3). Nicotine dependence: low dependence 23% (7), moderate dependence 77% (24). Post-intervention: low cardiovascular risk 42% (13), moderate 48% (15) and severe 10% (3); 100% (31) with moderate dependance.  58% of the studied population presents cardiovascular risk.
