Biosafety is considered a vital element that guarantees quality in health. It comprises the norms and procedures that reduce, minimize and eliminate risk factors for people. It is important that nursing professionals in the performance of their duties, apply biosafety norms and protocols for their protection and safety in the face of the different risks inherent to the profession.
This study, in which 31 nursing professionals participated at the Hospital Dr. Ezequiel Abadía-Soná, was carried out to know the level of application of biosecurity measures in the dimensions of protective barriers, universality, and elimination of contaminated material against Covid-19. It is a quantitative approach, descriptive correlational cross-sectional design. Data was collected through the application of a survey developed by the WHO, later adapted and validated by Merino Chira (2020). The responses were tabulated using SPSS version 20.0. The results indicate a level of implementation of safety measures ranging from fair to good 81% for the three dimensions studied. The study concludes that the level of application of biosecurity measures is adequate for patients admitted to the hospital. In practice, the established protocols are followed, and the knowledge about Covid-19 care acquired through training is applied by the nursing staff, thus, demonstrating their level of commitment and responsibility in the face of a pandemic reality that requires it.
