Abstract

Being an informal caregiver of an elderly dependent adult is exhausting due to the inherent implications and challenges to this role. The lack of coping resources leads to conflicts that affect the caregiver's quality of life, affecting the quality of care they provide. It is necessary to have alternatives to cope with emerging crises. Objective: to conduct a systematic review of intervention programs aimed at informal caregivers in different countries to know their effectiveness. Methodology: The PRISMA method was used to systematically review of the articles and assess their relevance. The instrument used to rate the quality and scientific validity was ICrESAI-IMeCI. The databases used to search for information were: VHL Regional Portal (Virtual Health Library), Pubmed, and Sciencedirect.  Results: In total, 2287 results were retrieved, and 5 articles were selected using different filters. Two articles were discarded due to their limited approach to the problem. The remaining 3 articles explore work strategies where caregivers are considered essential in developing proposals. Conclusion: Intervention programs for informal caregivers of dependent older adults seek to eradicate a social problem with unfavorable results, which can be associated to their methodology, the lack of detailed analysis of their findings, and the absence of subsequent evaluations. Awareness of these shortcomings will aid in structuring projects that effectively meet the future needs of a growing population group.
