Abstract

A quantitative research of pre-experimental approach of explanatory type with pretest-posttest of a single group is proposed, whose objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of the group psychotherapeutic intervention based on the cognitive behavioral approach in the decrease of high levels of state anxiety in primary caregivers of children with ADHD of the Valorate Foundation, Panama Centro, 2023. The Valorate Foundation has psychoeducational programs and family intervention; therefore, we based our study on a sample of 24 primary caregivers, by means of a probabilistic sampling. Once the data from the pretest were corroborated through the Trait-State Anxiety Inventory (IDARE), the clinical interview of each participant was coordinated and then the intervention was applied in which 8 group sessions of 120 minutes and 2 additional sessions of closure, follow-up and application of the posttest were carried out.

For the statistical approach, the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 data analysis program was used, where frequency tables were prepared for the sociodemographic data, descriptive statistics, cross tables to compare the incidence of the data and inferential statistics to indicate the effectiveness of the intervention, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test was applied, T-test for related samples and the Wilcoxon test was used if it was not significant, with a significance level of 0. 05 at two tails and in terms of probability 0.95 and 0.05, respectively, where it was found that the group therapy program applied decreased the high levels of anxiety-state symptomatology in the primary caregivers.
