This research is developed to evaluate the process of teaching and learning in courses of trigonometry in eleventh grade in sciences oriented high schools and to detect the areas that present some difficulties. The research is justified because of the wide application of trigonometry in areas such as engineering, maritime and space navigation. It is necessary to provide teachers of strategies and students of procedures that could help them in trigonometric courses. To achieve the objective of the research, the methodology was: 1.Design and validation of a survey to explore the strengths and weaknesses of the students; 2.Apply the survey to a population of 15 students from 4 high school among private and public schools for collecting data and information; 3. Analyze the results obtained from a population of 60 students surveyed to gather information concerning and related to the factors considered as the difficulties students have in solving mathematical problems; 4. Present the final results.
The results of the survey indicated the need of offering didactic and methodological orientation to teachers since several areas resulted satisfactory but others need to be strengthened. For this purpose, methodological proposal are offered and also a plan of sequence of topics that should be developed will contribute in solving the difficulties.
