Abstract

The present research work was carried out in the Calculus to Chemical Engineering I subject, with the objective of obtaining the essential oil from the eucalyptus leaf using different extraction methods. First, the steam drag method is used and then the distillation with organic solvents is used by Soxhlet, using ethyl alcohol as a solvent. The results obtained experimentally were used to perform the material balance of each process. With the steam drag method, 0.658 g of essential oil was obtained and with the use of organic solvents 10.04 g. It was considered that the best performance is obtained with the steam entrainment method, since it allows a much purer product to be obtained when compared with the extraction with solvents.
