Background. Colorectal polyps are visible protuberances on the colon mucosa. They can be neoplasics or no neoplasics. Adenomatous polyp is a benign lesion many times precursor of colorectal cancer, which is the third most frecuent in the world .
Objective. Describe the epidemiology, pathology and clinical presentation of colorectal polyps.
Methods. Retrospective descriptive study.
Results. One hundred and fifty five patients from 446 colonoscopies matched with the inclusion criteria. The mean age was 57.6 years . Fifty nine percent were male. We found 65% of polyps distal to the splenic flexure. Sixty three percent were ? 0.5 cm and 91% sesils. The majority of patients had unique polyps , predominately adenomatous tubular histology. Rectal bleeding , abdominal pain and constipation were the most frecuent symptoms presented in 55.5%. Sixteen percent of the patients had family history of colorectal cancer.
