Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is an important grou p of technologies for diagnosis and treatment of patients with many types of cardiovascular disease. PCI's have become a field with ma ny new applications , although - as any other procedure - they still have some limitations. We are far from having practical experience on corona ry interventions, but we have had the opportunity of receiving brand new information from important authors on this subject. We have attended lectures , broadcasts of live cases and we have reviewed rec ent articles. That is why we want to show our impressi on on the actual and future applications of these techniques. We will focus our discussion in the actual use of these techniques in terms of general considerations regarding PCl's, including the future role of coatedstents and the treatment of small vessel disease; as well as the promises of computers and robotic surgery to facilitate complex endoscopic procedures.
