We are presenting two recent cases with a review of the current literature. These are two patients, with an initial presentation of proptosis. Our purpose is to recall the attention of all the physicians involved in pediatric care, and specifically those not familiar with ocular pathology, on the differential diagnosis: benign and malignant, of the patient with proptosis.
We conclude that some malignant infiltrations of the orbit, like neuroblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and exophitic retinoblastoma could present initially with clinical signs very similar to inflammatory and infectious entities. That is the reason why we should be aware of the differential diagnoses.
