Abstract

The gastric carcinoma is a growth disorder of cells from de gastric wall that can origin local organs invasion and produce distance metastasis. Is the second cause of cancer deaths in all countries. World wide, Costa Rica ranks first in death rate (48 per 100 000 population) and Japan with incidence rate (77.87 per 100000 population) in Panama, gastric carcinoma, has an incidence rate of 11.5 per 100000 population and a death rate of 7.8 per 100000 population.

Is a descriptive retrospective study, with a universe of 42 patients with gastric cancer of the surgery rooms in HST.

There is a masculine:feminine rate of 3:1. Most incidence rate due to stomach cancer occurs between the ages of 51 to 60 years. 71% of the patients presented smoking and drinking habits, 40% had a gastric disease previous to the diagnosis and 16% had family history of gastric cancer.
