Malnutrition is an imbalance of energy and/or deliciency in one or more nutrients. Undernutrition has important effects on the evolution of illness. A lot of patients were undernourished at admission without been recognized. The present study was designed to assess patients with acute care in Santo Tomas Hospital in a period of six months, at admission and after two weeks of hospital stay, to assess the effect of the hospitalization on the nutritional status from anthropometric and biochemical measurements. The outcomes showed a high incidence of undernutrition at admission (63%) and this percentage increased after two weeks (74%) 01 admission without statistic asociation between malnutrition and hospital stay (x2 of 1.35) . However we found statistic asociation between malnutrition and lengthened stay in hospital and between malnutrition and complications.
