Abstract

The Retrocaval ureter is an embryological disorder in which the right ureter is trapped behind the inferior vena cava by the abnormal development of the abdominal blood vessels. This entity can be asintomatic or as severe as hydronephrosis with deterioration of the renal function. The surgical treatment should be performed by correcting the basic anatomical abnormality, this alleviating obstruction and avoiding deterioration of the renal function of the patient. The case of a 43-year-old man with history of colic pain of mode rate intensity, located in the right lower quad rant without irradiation associated with nausea and vomits of alimentary content, was presented. The initial diagnosis was ureteral lithiasis and was treated with double J catheter. The images resulting from the excretory urography, retrograde pyelography and computerized axial tomography were compatible with retrocaval ureter. Finally treatment was end to end anastomosis with position of a double J catheter.
