Invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast is a heterogeneous entity with difficult prognosis of global survival and disease-free survival, due to the limited value of histological prognostic factors. For this disease, there are also predictive factors to therapy, such as the hormonal receptor status, of estrogen and progesterone, and the over-expression of the c- erbB-2 oncoprotein, some of which are also prognostic factors.
For this study, monoclonal antibodies were used to determine estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and oncoprotein c-erbB-2 in 29 cases referred to the Pathology Laboratory of the Hospital Chiriqui, belonging to resident women of the province of Chiriqui, biopsied from 2007 to 2009. This study found 55,17 % of the cases were luminal- type tumors, 37,93 % were triple negatives, and 6,90 % were Her2-type.
Understimating the importance of these studies by management reduces the possibility of the right therapy according to the real prognosis of patients with breast cancer.
