Objectives: Make a description about the management of thoracolumbar injuries with transpedicular instrumentation.
Methodology: Descriptive, retrospective and linear study; with all patients treat with transpedicular instrumentation in the neurosurgery department of the CHMDAAM-CSS, to July 31st, 2004. The test ,for statistical significance was chi square (Xl) and p. It was use Epilnfo version 3.2.2
Results: 53 patients were studyed 51 % males. 8etween 41-50 years old: 24,5 % and between 51-60 years old: 24,5 %. The 66 % no previous pathologies, 22,6 %with hypertension. L4/L5 Spondylolistesis in 28,3 % and lumbosacral transpedicular instrumentation 37,7 %. Surgical time between 2:30-11 :30 hours. Complications in 13,2 % with durotomies 9,4 %. The 58,5 % were going to the house in the first post surgical week, wlth more extensive time ir¡ thoracic procedures. Spondylolisthesis is most frequenlln 50 years old and trauma in younger of 50 years old. No statistical difference ifl intra hospital time with the complications, diagnosis, previous diseases and analgesics.
Conclusions: Transpedicular instrumentation and sub laminar hooks are using in spondylolisthesis, fractures, infections, cancer and others. The hospital time is a week, with few complications and no mortalities. The results present the c1inic and statistic utilities of these procedures in the management of spine pathologies with selective patients.
