Abstract

Donovanosis or venereal granuloma is a sexua/ly transmitted disease, genera/lylocalizedin theskin ofthe genitalregion and the perianalarea. /( is characterized by a non painful nodule, that extends and forms big ulcers with a base of red, thick and friable granulomatous tissue with we/l defined irregular borders. The causal agent is known as Klebsie/la granulomatis. It"s prevalence is of 0.4-52%. The diagnostic is realized clinica/ly and by the detection of Donovan's bodies in tissue smears. This is a case ofa 29 year-old woman who showed neoformations which envolved into big nonpainful granulomatous plaques in the skín ofthe inferior abdomen with one year history. Associated with it, the patient reported weight loss ofapproximately 40 pounds and occasional fever (not quantified). On physical examination a localized dermatosis was discovered on the abdomen characterized by huge, red and friable granulomatous plaques localized in the low abdomen and a sma/l granulomatous plaque protruding from the navel. The abdominal felt hard when palpilatated.. No lesions were found on the internal o external genitals. Smears ofthe lesion showed Donovan's bodies.
