Abstract

Objective: To compare the maternal and perinatal outcome using misoprostol and dinoprostone for labor induction.

Material and methods: Prospective, comparative and experimental study. Were studied all women using misoprostol or dinoprostone, with the following inclusion criteria: pregnancy 41 weeks, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, decreased fetal movements, fetal growth restriction.

Results: The patients studied were 88; 40 with misoprostol (PGE1) and 48 in the dinoprostone (PGE2) group. The hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (42%) were the most frequent indication for labor induction. There was no significant difference between groups in via of delivery (p= 0.6) or time from beginning labor and delivery ( p=0.22). Furthermore, there was not difference with the use of oxitocin and prostaglandin dose used. There was not found significant difference in maternal complications. There was a significant difference (p=0.01) for abnormal fetal tests in the misoprostol group.

Conclusion: We found that both prostaglandins were effective for labor induction without difference in via of delivery, time for beginning of labor and oxitocin use. However, there were more disorders of fetal tests (fetal heart monitoring) in the misoprostol group, but without difference in perinatal outcome.
