Abstract

Infectious disorders are the most severe complications in patients with human imumodefficiency virus (HIV) infection. As the immune system of these individuals gradually erodes, patients are at risk for a number of different opportunistic infections, many of which may be life-threatening. Although therapy of HIV infection itself has been emphasized and the efficacy of newer agents
such as the protease inhibitors is quite promising, the mainstay of treatment of HIV infection lies in the therapy and prevention of opportumistic infections. In this review, special emphasis placed on infections that involve the skin.
