This study determines the knowledge, attitudes and practices that the officials who work in the University of Panama Campus Library System have on the consuming of salt and water intake and the link they present with chronic non-communicable diseases.
It was developed on the basis of a retrospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study, where the information was processed in the statistical program Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Of a total of 86 SIBIUP officials surveyed, 63.0% consider that the consuming of salt per day should be less than three tablespoons; however, 30.2% do not know how much sodium to eat.
While, for water intake, 59.3% know that they should drink between seven to ten glasses of water daily and 31.4% indicated that the water intake should be greater than ten glasses. Respondents consider that the above are related to kidney and cardiovascular diseases and obesity. It is suggested to establish strategies for the maintenance of healthy practices that promote selection of health protective factors.
