Abstract

Sampling was conducted from June to December 2018 to determine the incidence and distribution of the phytophagous mite Eriophyes Guazumae Cook (Eriophyidae), in Guacimo trees (Guazuma ulmifolia), in the Republic of Panama. Sampling was carried out randomly, by direct observation of trees in different provinces of the country, to verify the presence of galls on the leaves, the primary damage associated with the pest, and the subsequent verification and identification of the mite inside the galls. The results of the observations allowed determining the incidence and identification of Eriophyes Guazumae Cook (Eriophyidae), as the causal agent of galls on Guacimo trees and shrubs in all the provinces sampled in the country (Panama, Coclé, Colón, Darién, Chiriquí, Herrera, Los Santos, and Veraguas). These results represent the first scientific report for our country of Eriophyes Guazumae Cook, the causal agent of galls in Guacimo. Allow us to associate it with the same mite that has been reported in other countries such as Colombia, Venezuela, United States (Florida), and Central American countries such as Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
