Abstract

The trees of the three parks (promenades) Sucre, Roosevelt and Centenario (Central) of the Casco Antiguo of the city of Colón are important elements within this city, since they create beautiful settings in the parks, streets and avenues, thus recalling the time when the city of Colón was called the “cup of gold”. This set of trees, due to their age, represents a potential risk, which is why the objective of this study was to evaluate the state of health, as well as the level of potential danger of these trees, which are part of the urban forests of the city. de Colón, since due to the increase in urbanization they are threatened. This investigation was carried out from August 2018 to August 2020. Visual evaluations were carried out on the trees and at the same time an inventory of them was made, they were assigned a value (from 0 to 5.0) according to the level of risk determined in the inspection carried out. , which allowed identifying the species that presented priority for their future risk assessment. The presence of 277 individuals belonging to 16 families, with 35 species, was recorded. Of the same 134 individuals have healthy phytosanitary conditions and 143 have adverse health conditions. This study will help to make the best decisions regarding the management and conservation of the trees in the Old Town, since it is necessary for these trees to continue performing the ecological, cultural and social function immersed in them.
