Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the socioeconomic aspects and factors that limit watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) production in Alanje and Progreso, Chiriquí, Panama. For which, a survey was carried out, based on an estimated sample of producers, considering open and closed questions, to determine the limitations that they face. With the information gathered, we determined that the most significant factors that limit watermelon production in Alanje and Progreso, are the lack of use of technology by producers, the high cost of supplies, pests such as whitefly, aphids, gummy stem blight. In addition, the limiting factors in the cultivation for export were demarcated.
