Abstract

From 2010-2017, eight collared peccaries (Peccari tajacu) were found parasitized by the ticks Amblyomma pecarium, Haemaphysalis juxtakochi, Amblyomma nr. oblongoguttatum, Amblyomma naponense and Amblyomma tapirellum in Panama Canal basin. In addition, captive collared peccaries were parasitized for Amblyomma mixtum and A. ci. oblongoguttatum. In 2016 two lipped peccaries (Tayassu peccari) were found parasitized by A. pecarium and Dermacentor imitans from mature forests of Darien National Park. These associations are coincident with habitat preferences reported for both groups, in addition to the conditions of confinement.
