Abstract

This study was done with to determine the diversity of aquatic insects associated with leaves in stream El Barrigon or Capisucia of Ciudad del Árbol, and to determine if the current speed, channel width, depth of the water column influenced the number of insects during 11 months of 2011. Sample collections were done in the leaf packs of 6 stations. In each station physical parameters were measured and regression and correlation analysis was carried out. The indexes of Margalef, Menhinick, Berger Parker, Dominance, and Fisher-alpha, were then used to calculate the diversity.  Seven thousand  and five individuals were collected, which were distributed in 9 orders, 26 families and 37 genera, most prominent being the Chironomidae, Chimarra sp., Farrodes sp., Smicridea sp. and Tricorythodes sp.  Aquatic insects have relationship with some seasonal physical factors stations where they are collected, although according to the results of this study shows a linear relationship but this model does not explain well the presence of insects in the river. More studies are needed to include more variables which may explain the presence of these organisms in the stream sites.
