This work is part of the program developed by Station RN50 to characterize the origin of background radioactivity in the Republic of Panama. Radon-222 is a gas that comes from the natural disintegration chain of 238U, mostly found in deep volcanic rocks. According to the characteristics of the volcanic soil, radon can emanate in greater or lesser quantities from the soil in those areas. The measurements were conducted during 2021 and 2022 in El Valle de Antón, which is the most accessible volcanic zone of the four identified in Panama. To measure Rn-222 concentrations, RAD7 equipment was used. Due to the incidence of water on the propagation of Rn-222 in soils, measurements were taken during the rainy, intermediate or transition and dry periods. In the dry season, the best uptake in the exterior soils of the dwellings was obtained during the month of March (550 - 18 110) Bq/m3. During the months of October and May, the highest doses of equivalent radioactivity inside the dwellings were recorded (0,199 - 0,249) mSv/year. In conclusion, the contribution to radioactivity from this volcanic region is small, so it is recommended to maintain good ventilation in the dwellings.
