This paper studies the sound levels in a sector of the urban area of the city of Panama (5,0 km2), where a great number of hospitals, educational facilities, residential and religious centers are concentrated. The sonar levels and their frequencies were measured at 100 points during one year. Surveys were also conducted with pedestrians in order to determine their noise perception. We were able to verify that the area under study is exposed during the entire year to an average value of 74 dBA from 7:00 in the morning to 9:00 at night.
