In the following work, the main features of the seismotectonic in the highlands of Chiriqui are shown, on the basis of analysis of historical earthquakes and the seismic catalog of the University of Panama. It is concluded that most of the seismicity in the highlands of Chiriquí is concentrated near the border with Costa Rica and decrreases until being almost nonexistent east of Cerro Hornito. An important part of the seismicity is observed east of Barú volcano until the planes of Fortuna. It is largely associated to local faults of transcurrente type with NE-SW and NW-SE strike, but there are some that are of the thrust type. Some of the seismicity and special episodes of seismic swarms may be associated with the movement of fluids in the Baru volcano.
