Abstract

The window is one of the fundamental components of the envelope of a building, since it establishes the level of habitability, because it provides energy, lighting and ventilation; thus becoming an essential part of a passive conditioning system. The present work carries out an evaluation of the natural lighting conditions in an apartment on the 12th floor of the P.H. Caleta and Deluxe Residences, through sunning simulations. The results indicate that the impact of direct solar radiation within the studied environments is highly influenced by design parameters, such as the excess of the recommended window-wall ratio percentages, the notable lack of solar protection strategies on their facades and, especially, the effect of the urban environment on its thermal and light comfort. Considering these factors, the P.H. Caleta receives the most direct solar radiation, especially on its main facades, oriented in an east-west direction. In addition, both buildings exceed the percentage recommended by the RES 2019 regarding the window-wall ratio.
