Abstract

The increase in population, the growth of the urban footprint and the new demands on public transport have made the pedestrian space a key factor in urban mobility, denoting the importance of measures to protect the environmental conditions within them. In Panama City, the importance of studies that demonstrate the impact of the presence of vegetation on the urban microclimate, and its influence on the mobility of people in their environment, has been overlooked. This study focuses on the town of Calidonia, where general data of the sector were collected to determine its urban morphology in terms of land use, vegetation zones, pedestrian paths, among others. Finally, two sites were selected, with the objective of carrying out a study of solar incidence by means of shadow simulations, Sky View Factor and surface temperature of the materials found, which characterize an urban space with vegetation, and one without it; where the results showed as between the period between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., the presence of vegetation, tall buildings and materials within the public space influences the urban microclimate of public spaces, thus increasing the presence of users.
