This paper states how important it is for the different academic units of the Universidad de Panama to consider students as the main protagonists (beneficiaries) of the curriculum processes, since their perceptions about the training they receive could be considered as a key element for the revision of the curriculum proposals. The major concern lies in how important it is to take into account students’ opinions about their studies. To achieve this goal we reviewed some research related to university students’ perceptions, nationally and internationally. The perceptions are conceptualized as an element of the social imaginary, which is built and modified by the interaction of the main social stakeholders of the teaching and learning processes, and the topic is analyzed in response to an integrating and processual conception of the curriculum that includes the management of the proposals of the university careers. Finally, we present some ideas for broadening and deepening in the topic and create the foundations for the construction of a research line that allows us to determine with greater breadth and depth the students’ perceptions about the training they receive.
