Abstract

This article includes the results and considerations based on a research experience carried out at the end of 2014 at Institute Dr. Alfredo Canton (High School) of San Miguelito District, Province of Panama, focused on the knowledge of students about the causes and consequences of the School Physical Infrastructure deterioration and their willingness to participate in its conservation. This is an exploratory and descriptive approximation to a recurring and multicausal problem that hits the headlines at the beginning of each school year for the missing elements and the poor and functional physical conditions of some schools. The study has found that the participation of students in the conservation of spaces, installations and equipment is a possibility to consider, for they are well aware of the deterioration causes, admit their responsibility and at the same time, express pride of belonging because they share the values of their school and, in general, they express willingness to participate in a planned conservation. Such a sense of belonging can be a strength to be taken into account by the system authorities
