Abstract

This article examines the prolonged American hegemony over the Panama Canal, from its construction in the 20th century to the present, with repeated threatening statements from President Donald Trump, who directly indicates that the goal of his administration is to reclaim the Panama Canal, which belongs to his nation. In this analysis, a methodological approach based on documentary research is employed, focusing on a critical analysis of academic research and studies related to

U.S. foreign policy throughout history. Through this approach, repetitive patterns of interventionist ideologies are identified, reconfigured to the context of the 21st century. This study highlights that President Donald Trump’s discourse cannot be addressed as an isolated fact, but rather as part of a continuous, persistent dominance of the most powerful nation on the planet over Panama. In conclusion, it is observed that hegemony over the Canal has adopted new forms; this invites a reconsideration of respect for the Social State of Law, International Law, as well as non-intervention and the self-determination of civilized peoples, which are guarantees of the sovereignty of states and nations.
