Abstract

This document will attempt to address the relationship between the increase in the waiting list and the commercialization of health; Starting from the explanatory hypothesis that one of these gradual ways of weakening health services is precisely the postponement of surgery appointments, specialized medicine, laboratory tests, to name a few; which generates a general malaise in the population, a greater distrust of public services, and the growing need to go to private services to meet health care needs.

In the Costa Rican case, this commercialization to which I refer is evidenced by the number of hospitals, pharmacies and clinical laboratories of private origin around public hospitals and clinics, in addition to the number of suppliers that supply to the Costa Rican Insurance Fund Social (CCSS), which are dedicated to sale of services that aim to correct the slowness with which Social Security responds in general terms and which is materialized in waiting lists, whether for laboratory tests, attention with specialists, by mention some.
