Abstract

The historical novel, by Georg Lukács (1955) can be considered as the first theoretical approach to a genre that saves the opposition between fiction and non- fiction. From there, a theoretical corpus was formed to define the Historical Novel, a genre that enjoyed a predilection in Latin America especially during the 20th century. The Panamanian narrative has not escaped this influence, producing works set at decisive moments in the country's history. This paper attempts to make an evaluation of some of the most important Panamanian historical novels in light of the evolution of the genre in Hispanic America, as well as of the existing theoretical proposals on the genre, in order to establish the existence or not of this theoretical affiliation.
