Abstract

All the activities carried out by man on Earth, indiscriminately require the existence of water. However, the increase and the habits of water consumption leave in its path a water footprint, to some extent unsustainable. The water footprint will help measure the total volume of fresh water involved in activities to produce goods and services. The evaluation of the water footprint will allow the analysis between the relationship of the activities of the consumers that are supplied with drinking water and the National Aqueduct and Sewer Institute (IDAAN) during the year 2020. Thus, this study aims to show the consumption patterns of water resources to improve the levels of sustainability of natural resources. Dr. Arjen Hoekstra methodology was used, and adapted to our environment from a geographically defined area in the village of Chilibre; area with the highest population growth in the district of Panama. Through the water footprint indicator, we can observe the pressure exerted by man in his activities where water is involved. This work seeks to reflect on consumption models and guide the population towards a sustainable water culture
