This text seeks to reflect on the failure of the development models implemented in Latin America and based on the wrong relationship between economic growth and democracy. In the current neoliberal context this fallacy continues to be disclosed. It is useful to strengthen the new transnational oligarchic pact but it has no use to think the relationship between modernization and democracy. In this sense the article advances in the proposal of a solidary republicanism that can politically assess the issue of the common good. We must understand by solidary republicanism a republicanist pact oriented towards the organization of the democratic experience from the emphasis on the common good and on the social, cultural and political pluralism as a central condition for the maintenance of the national society open to the global.
