Field work in Geography -especially in Human Geography- involves building connections through dialogue with local experts. As a process of accumulation that requires renegotiations between spaces and times, it is permeated by the alteration of the daily life of the researcher and the communities with which he works. In this essay, based on an epistemological discussion of this academic and professional practice, the transcendence of the role of experts is reflected, presenting an interview with Elías Morales Escalante, bribri leader with a long track record in the dialogue with teachers, researchers, professionals and students from various disciplines. Based on their experience, the intervention of non-indigenous people in the Talamanca bribri is recognized and discussed, bearing in mind that field work involves commitments to people and places.
