Solid waste management represents an environmental and economic challenge for public universities, where the lack of diagnostics limits the implementation of circular economy models. In this context, this study analyzes whether the diagnosis of university waste can promote the circular economy at the University of Panama. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design, applying a Likert scale questionnaire to a sample of 204 members of the university community. The analysis combined descriptive techniques and a linear regression model. The results showed a favorable disposition to participate in waste management, despite limited levels of knowledge. The econometric analysis showed that the perceived importance of the circular economy is the main determinant of this willingness. The study provides empirical evidence supporting the initial viability of a circular economy model in the university setting.
