The first feeding that an infant should receive is breastfeeding, since it satisfies their need for food and provides a number of nutrients and calories for their optimal growth and development. Its minimum duration must be up to six (6) months of life. However, factors that arise within family and social situations influence in such a way that the natural consumption of the infant is affected. The main objective of this writing is to critically and reflectively analyze the main causes of early abandonment of breastfeeding and the repercussions that these have on the health of the young infant. The methodology used is based on the search and review of secondary sources of scientific and updated information such as texts, articles and national and international research, using search engines such as Google Scholar and journal portals such as Scielo and Redalyc, among others.
The interest in analyzing the early abandonment of breastfeeding today lies in the fact that a large part of mothers, due to their occupation, experience, lack of knowledge, illnesses or beliefs, may choose to stop breastfeeding in a certain way. prematurely, and thus start the use of infant formulas for their children.
