Abstract

Industry 4.0, characterized by digitalization, automation and connectivity of industrial processes, has become a fundamental driver of change in the modern era. In this context, sustainability has emerged as a global imperative, and its integration with Industry 4.0 stands as an essential solution to address the environmental and social challenges we face.  The literature review strongly supports the idea that it not only drives economic efficiency but can also be cost-effective and lead to greener manufacturing practices. The challenges that accompany this transition towards greener production are highlighted, such as initial investment, the skills gap and cybersecurity. The need to integrate sustainability into business strategy is emphasized through approaches such as the Triple Bottom Line and Life Cycle Assessment, and the importance of sustainability education and awareness among organizational staff is highlighted.
