The articulation between migration and the local labor market is the basis of this study that is delimited for Spain and that includes the period 2001-2006. The article begins with a general theoretical approach based on the effect that employment has as a fundamental cause when motivating the decision to emigrate or immigrate from a place of origin to a place of destination. This exhibition is done in a general way and culminates with a focus on Spanish casuistry.
An analysis of the spatial structure of different variables related to migration processes (emigration, immigration and migratory balance) is continued. We use the provinces as a reference unit to solve the spatial description. The relationship between migration and the local labor market is based on panel data techniques for five economic sectors (agriculture, industry, construction, market and non-market services) for the same set of Spanish provinces.
The article concludes with the choice of models, both fixed effects and random effects, for each economic sector and clearly poses the need to introduce social variables. This type of work can find its continuation in studies adapted to the region of Aragon and the Central American region (Central America and Panama).
