In a globalized and highly competitive economy such as the current one, the development of societies depends largely on their capacity to incorporate knowledge and technology. In this context, universities, as the main producers of knowledge, play a relevant role by incorporating their contribution to economic and social development as a relevant priority of the university processes of training, research and extension. In order to put these processes into practice, it is necessary to draw up a program where the general objective is: To enhance the knowledge management of the Municipal University Branch in the area of local development. It will have as a result directing its Scientific-Technological potential in the development and projects based on the needs of the municipality, Collaboration in the strategic planning of the local development of the territory. To carry out this research, interview methods are used with natural persons, legal entities and entrepreneurs who need advice and tools to develop their potential. The main actions developed by the branches of the municipality and the recognition of the government authorities for the task undertaken are also presented, demonstrating that the role that the FUM must play in the processes of local development is viable. The active role of the University in local development does not replace nor seek to replace the role of the government and other local actors, but rather seeks to promote development, organize and facilitate work through effective coordination and the construction of networks for the flow of knowledge in the local.
