The social university responsibility RSU, is a recent model of management that the universities get for the commitment of human and professional formation, construction of knowledge, dissemination of culture and participation in society. This article systematizes some precursory international initiatives of the RSU management model, and the status of Panamanian public universities. The research was documentary and exploratory in nature. Firstly, a review of the literature was carried out through two phases, a convergent, which consisted of searching about social university responsibility, by using the Academic google, and as discriminators, the publishing period 1960-2021. During this phase, 224 documents were got. Afterwards, a divergent phase was carried out in which the manuscripts whose titles and abstracts were most closely related to international initiatives were selected. These selected documents were used as criteria by universities in Latin America and Panama. After that, an analysis of the leaked documents was done, and it was identified which international initiatives such as the World Conferences on Higher Education in 1998 and 2009, the elaboration of the Principles for Responsible Education in Management of the year 2000 of UNESCO, the interuniversity networks formed since 2000, are part of the management models that seek to spread socially responsible behavior; while at the national level the programs of the Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá, Universidad de Panama and Universidad Especializada de las Américas predominate.
