The toll is a rate that is charged to a means of land, river or maritime transport as a right of transit to use the infrastructure of the respective communication route. In the Panama Canal, the first toll’s building was made in 1912 by the North American government, which managed the interoceanic way until December 31st., 1999. Since the year 2002, the toll collection structure has been modified for ships and related services by the Government of Panama. This research aims to document about the changes that have been done in the calculation of the toll of container ships that transit through the Panama Canal. The documentary technique was used to record the data. Five changes are documented in the toll structure for ships transiting the Panama Canal. The single price system dominated during the administration of the Canal by the United States Government, since the transfer of the Canal to the Panamanian state, the transformations to the toll structure have contemplated the segment system by type of ship, in the case of container ships, the segment system is eliminated and the Transported TEUs, the load capacity, the type of locks and the loyalty program are included.
