Abstract

The equal marriage is something socially built since ancient times and nowadays demands the legalization of a protected status under the laws of our country. The purpose of this study was to know the perception of the students at some schools of the Universidad de Panamá about equal marriage, and therefore, of both male and female homosexuality; it was a descriptive quantitative study, under the technique of survey a questionnaire was applied to a sample of 483 students, in which 399 were women and 84 were men. The results indicated that there is no majority position in favor or against marriage equality, since 52% of the participants agree with it, and 48% said they do not. but this data tends to change if people profess the Protestant religion; since 83% said they did not agree with marriage equality, while in Catholics the rejection is 47%. According to hypotheses tests of one and two proportions, with a probability p < 0.05, no significant differences were found between the group surveyed who agree and those who do not agree about marriage equality. No significant differences were found between men and women.
