The objective of this article is to determine the incidence of motivation in the work performance of higher education personnel in a public and private institution located in Panama. The research is part of the non-experimental, field and descriptive-correlational design. The study population is sixty-five (75) professionals belonging to both the public and private higher education institution located in Panama, the sample was of a random intentional non-probabilistic type of simple selection, since it corresponded to the number of thirty-one six (36) professionals for the public institution and thirty-six (36) professionals for the private institution. For the collection of information, the survey technique was used with the instrumental support of the questionnaire, which was structured into four (4) sections: a. Current situation on Motivation and its Incidence on Labor Performance; b. Characteristics of Motivation that Drive Work Performance; c. Elements of Motivation that Affect Labor Performance; d. Weaknesses that the Institution presents in relation to Motivation as a determinant in Work Performance. In this regard, the study concludes that the public institution being of the State, despite the lack of motivation in the field of integration and sense of belonging, in its collaborators there is a certain self-esteem that encourages them to continue working; On the other hand, in the private institution this situation is not perceptible, moreover, they try to carry out their functions due to the economic incentive.
