The host community is one of the most valuable elements of a tourist destination, so its perception of tourism is a fundamental pillar for designing tourism development strategies. The objective of the research is to analyze how the local community perceives the performance of tourism management at the municipal level in the Quevedo canton, of adventure tourism, between the years 2020 and 2021. The present study collects the responses of 120 inhabitants of the Quevedo canton, in which the theory of social exchange (SET) and perception geography are applied, through a mixed investigation. The results show that, in general, citizens are satisfied with the management carried out and have shown improvements in aspects such as transportation, marketing of tourist services, benefits received from tourism, innovation and creation of new products, inclusion of the community in decision-making, accountability, accessibility of processes, institutions and information, among others. Improvements that occurred even in pandemic times. These findings provide valuable theoretical contributions to researchers and have practical implications for local authorities.
