This research aims to present the results obtained in a study entitled "Psychological intervention plan to optimize the mental health of older adults of the gerontological center of the city of Babahoyo, period 2016-2018". The main purpose of this study was to develop a comprehensive psychological intervention plan to improve the mental health of older adults residing in the gerontological center of Babahoyo during the aforementioned period. To achieve this objective, extensive research was carried out that included interviews, questionnaires and direct observations. Importantly, population aging is a global concern, and older adults face significant challenges in terms of mental health. The Babahoyo gerontological center did not have a comprehensive psychological approach to address the emotional and mental needs of its residents. Therefore, this study began with an in-depth evaluation of the needs and demands of the elderly population in the center. This included interviewing residents, their families, and center staff at this stage of life. Based on these findings, a psychological intervention plan consisting of several stages was developed. These stages include individualized counseling, group therapy, skills training, promotion of recreational and wellness activities, and the involvement of families in the therapeutic process. The results showed significant improvements in the mental health of the residents, including a reduction in the symptomatology of depression and anxiety, which translated into an improvement in the quality of life of this vulnerable population. In conclusion, the psychological intervention plan proved to be effective in optimizing the mental health of older adults in the gerontological center of the city of Babahoyo during the study period.
