This article examines the role of the Carrisoli family in the founding of settlements in the Darién region during the 17th century, within the framework of Spanish colonial strategies for territorial control. Focusing on Julián Carrisoli de Alfaraz, who played a central role in mediating with indigenous communities, the analysis explores how power dynamics and resistance shaped the colonization process in this frontier region. The study highlights the complex social and political relationships that emerged during the establishment of settlements, emphasizing the interaction between Spanish colonizers and indigenous peoples. The research draws on primary and secondary historical sources to reconstruct events and provide a fresh perspective on the colonization of Darién.
