Abstract

This article is dedicated to studying the popular language used by Pedrito Altamiranda, in his musical discourse, to know the linguistic registers, the voices, the foreign terms and the lexical variety applied to some of his compositions. The objective of this research is to describe, through the lyrics of the "people's singer", the vision of Panamanian´s people, their lifestyle, their identity, their culture, their customs, and their expression form. This research is qualitative nature - descriptive, documentary and linguistic, since the voices, the lexicon, the popular jargon were analyzed, and their particular meaning is explained. The results show that, in the songs of this well-known singer-songwriter, a great lexical richness is reflected, which serves to portray and characterize, with great mastery, the characters of the town. It is concluded that the language is a little bit flexible, in terms of its use, but this flexibility depends on the people and the social environment where it is used.
